With recent waves of cannabis legalization, there has been a sharp rise in accidental consumption of cannabis-infused foods. The most popular forms of cannabis edibles are candies, cookies and gummies—all foods that are highly enticing to children. Ally allows you to bring these treats into your home, without worrying about any mix-ups.

Working closely with the client, our team developed a formfactor that would belong in any part of the home - from bookshelf to fridge. We designed a simple, integrated lid lock to keep unwanted individuals out of your stash. The contents are organized using a simple removable tray and kept fresh by a perimeter seal built into the lid.&#38;nbsp;

Prior to the start of this project, the beloved Vermont Castings barbecue brand had been laying dormant for over 10 years. We were tasked with creating a new visual identity and the development of a new range barbecue products and accessories. This work was produced while I was a staff designer at Huge Inc.

Our design team leveraged the heritage of the brand and the original manufacturing processes as inspiration to build a sustainable product that would provide a superiour cooking experience and stand the test of time. We focused on the durability and longevity of cast iron as a design pillar throughout the development of the brand and product line.&#38;nbsp;

Our team employed a holistic design process when developing the barbecues and accessories. With the user in mind we developed an entire cooking system to work together seamlessly and to provide a superior cooking experience.

Throughout our design process we explored new ways of creating a more social barbecue experience for every day of the year. We used the concept of a hearth to create a warm gathering place for socializing with friends and family.&#38;nbsp;

Our team iterated extensively on colour, form, material, controls, mechanisms, weight, balance and usable surface area until we arrived at a concise solution that met user and brand requirements.&#38;nbsp;

SKII Wonderland store uses Google’s “AR Core” technology to allow visitors to be fully immersed in the colourful world of artist Karan Singh - who partnered with the brand to release a limited edition bottle design. The goal of our team was to interpret the artist’s bright and dynamic work and transform it into a physical space.&#38;nbsp;

Our team developed a complex physical language using simple shapes to accentuate the colours in the graphic application. A further layer was added with an AR mobile application which is activated by the AR markers dotted throughout the space.&#38;nbsp;

This prototype tricorder system was designed for the the Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE. The key project requirements of this $10 million international competition were to design a functioning doctor-in-a-box that accurately diagnoses a set medical conditions (and the absence of those conditions) independent of a healthcare professional or facility, all while providing an optimal user experience.

&#38;nbsp;

	All 10 core health conditions:
Anemia, aFib, COPD, diabetes, leukocytosis, pneumonia, otitis media, sleep apnea, urniary tract infection, absence of condition
	Choice of 3 elective health conditions:
Cholesterol screen, food-borne illness, HIV screen, hypertension, hypothyroidism / hyperthyroidism, melanoma, mononucleosis, pertussis, shingles, strep throat&#38;nbsp;
	All 5 vital signs:
Blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, core body temperature

The key components of the system were required to accurately diagnose these 13 conditions while monitoring user vitals in real time. To make this task even more challenging the entire system, including packaging could weigh no more than 5lbs.

Our design team created a system that was comprised of a vitals monitor worn over the neck, an in-vitro diagnostics base station, a combination spirometer / otoscope and a companion phone application that would walk each user through a simplified medical diagnosis. Based on the responses to the various queries by the app and information from the different devices the system can reach a conclusion about the health of the user.&#38;nbsp;

The technology behind Vitaliti was developed from the ground up. Our team of designers and engineers developed the mechanisms, electronics and firmware. We worked closely with outside partners to develop the app and blood assay tests. The project required a great deal research, prototyping and iteration. This included extensive self-testing where we wore the device for days on end, conducted countless blood tests, and recorded the data.&#38;nbsp;

The final submission required our team to submit several fully functioning systems for clinical testing. Due to the competition time crunch we had to some of our assembly and final QA and debugging on-site in San Diego. &#38;nbsp;

The amplifiers, cords and effects pedals needed to get the best sound out of an electric guitar are cumbersome and can lead to a cluttered space. Jamstack is a small speaker that attaches directly to an electric guitar and allows the user to generate effects, create loop tracks and record songs directly on their smartphone. The phone mount has two attachment points on the speaker allowing for both left and right handed users.

Due to it’s size, Jamstack gives guitar players a new level of freedom by giving them a feature rich, portable solution that sounds great. One of our requirements was that the speaker could be used with or without a strap. We had to engineer a robust clamping mechanism that could bear the weight of the guitar while maintaining a tight grip.&#38;nbsp;

The rugged device clips onto the brim of approved safety helmets and uses the onboard sensor array to read worker location, motion, and presence of any dangerous gasses. The device also a simple binary communication system to answer quick visual alarms and queries. The data is relayed to the control center to provide real-time asset monitoring thereby allowing for quicker decision making and immediate response to any accidents underground.

The design had to be simple but rugged to withstand the hazards of the environment over a 10+ hour shift. Afterward the device would be detached from the brim and returned to a docking station to recharge the battery - similar to the handheld radios that are already in use.&#38;nbsp; User flow steps:


	Step 1:The worker is notified by visual alarm that a harmful gas has been detected by the onboard sensor.
	Step 2: The worker immediately stops their task, acknowledges the alarm by pushing the pulsing green button and heads to a muster point. 
	

Step 3: The recorded data is reported to the control center where they can plan to solve the issue knowing their workers are no longer in danger .

Before we began developing concepts our team executed an in-depth ethnographic study to better understand the worker, the equipment and the mining environment. We spent hours deep underground observing workers PPE, daily operations, communication, and interaction with tools and vehicles. The mining environment is dark, dirty, noisy and wet and it can be very difficult to get someones attention while they are carefully completing a task. The challenge was to design a device that could stand up to the environmental factors, and offer optimal usability for workers wearing full PPE - heavy duty gloves, eye protection, hard hats and high-viz clothing. &#38;nbsp;

We outfitted the workers with simple prototypes to better understand which concepts worked best. We quickly learned that the best way to communicate information to a worker in the middle of a complex, noisy task was through a brim-mounted visual cue.&#38;nbsp;

Working with the Donnelly group, I was responsible for developing a design management system to layout 20+ retail locations in 4 provinces across Canada. Due to a highly competitive market the goal was 2-part: to ensure a consistent brand across all locations by designing a system of modular millwork components and fixtures, and to get them operating as quickly as possible once approvals and permits have gone through.

It uses mechanical leverage to allow a caregiver to transfer an individual who lack mobility to stand and move about on their own. Existing devices in this category had either limited functionality, or were far too expensive and complicated for the average consumer.

Our primary product requirements were to keep size and weight to a minimum while maintaining a rigid structure that could manage up to 350lbs of weight. In order to to achieve this we had to make several ergonomic models to test the mechanical action and ensure it could function with the largest percentage of the user base.

Monsieur Cousteau was a curious mind and master of spectacle who combined the mysteriousness of the wild with the wonders of cutting edge technology. The design for an outdoor food cart - created for the Stop Night Market in Toronto - imagines a summers’ evening spectacle of the very same kind - one combining the grace of wilderness’ bounty with the intensity of food preparation.&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;

The design is comprised of a hot-air balloon, sized and constructed appropriately to carry the weight of a 3’ by 6’ worktop, food, and serving-wares. The balloon was stitched from ‘second quality’ (recycled/reclaimed) silicone fabric. The worktop began as a wicker woven over copper but was too heavy for liftoff and had to be changed to a lightweight wood.

Although ultimately deemed too “unstable” for food service, the cart was nevertheless a joyful and entertaining gathering place for market goers and became a perfectly fine place for a drink.
